This splendid round key-ring on enamelled blue bottom, showing Saint-Christopher carrying Jesus child, will protect you. It is the ideal gift to offer a person that you like and who travels a lot.
A little bit of history... Christophe, born in Lycie, was called, before his conversion, Offero. He was a five meter height giant who used to travel while saying that he wanted to serve the largest King of the world. Advised by a hermit, Offero helped the travellers to cross a river using a tree as a cane. One day, Offero made cross a child on his shoulders. Under the weight of the child, he was inserted in water and raising the head, said to him:
- "Child, why are you so heavy, it seems to me that I carry the world?"
The child answered him:
- "You don't carry only the world but also the one who made the world, I am Christ!"
And, the Jesus child baptized Offero of the name of Christophe, because Christoforos, in Greek, means "celui which carries Christ". This saint became the guard of the stevedores and the travellers.
During the Middle Ages, the population use to show a large devotion towards this saint. The only sight of a figure of Saint-Christopher protected from the contagious diseases. In the XVth century, the veneration for this saint was particularly marked.
